Join REI, Hiking Michigan, Riverside Kayak Connection, and the Friends of Oakwoods on American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day® -- Saturday, June 1st, at 9:00AM as we show our appreciation to the Huron-Clinton Metroparks for their support of the outdoors.
In the spirit of the day, we will be partnering with the park's natural resources department for a morning of stewardship (invasive removal, trail maintenance, etc) at Oakwoods Metropark near New Boston. No experience is necessary and all the tools you’ll need are provided in most cases. The Friends of Oakwoods will be giving away free commemorative National Trails Day t-shirts to all volunteers. Complimentary lunch will also be served. Volunteers are strongly encouraged to wear long pants, closed toe shoes and dress for the weather.
The afternoon will be filled with a wide variety of activities for the entire family -- displays, demonstrations & talks, hikes, kayaking rides, geocaching, birding walks, letterboxing, crafts, prize drawings, musical entertainment and much more. There will also be display booths provided by and manned by outdoor and nature groups. This family-friendly, free event has something for everyone.
