Event Description

The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent.

Come in to the Trailmix.Net Old Sacramento Store to learn how in this free workshop sponsored by Sacramento Audubon.

Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds. Seating is limited for this workshop, so please RSVP.

Thanks, Mike! I'd heard about Backyard Bird Counts, but didn't realize yours was part of a coordinated national one. It looks fantastic! Thank you for that web site -- it's a great source of info about ways to get further involved in one's own area, not to mention about bird-watching and identifying in general.

Hi Suz,

Actually the Great Backyard Bird Count is a national event, we are just working with Sacramento Audubon to bring it down to younger kids level. The GBBC is a joint project between Audubon and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. People all over North America count birds for a couple of days and then upload the data to a website for analysis.

Hi Mike! This sounds like a great and exciting project. Thanks for posting it. Is the Great Backyard Bird Count an annual Sacramento event? I look forward to hearing more about it, and especially to finding out what birds everyone saw.
