Carden Alvar Dragonfly Count
Date: Sunday, July 17, 2011
Closest Town: Dalrymple, Ontario
Meeting Time: 8:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Special Features: Dragonfly Expert
It’s time to celebrate 15 years of volunteers catching dragonflies on the Carden Alvar! Located near Orillia, the Carden Alvar is home to over 100 species of damselflies and dragonflies. These insects may look like flying jewels, but the trends in their populations can tell an important story about the area they’re found in. Spend the day with dedicated naturalist Bob Bowles, who has been facilitating this event since its inception, and can identify anything you might catch in your net. The question is, what dragonflies will you be quick enough to grab?
Please make sure you eat a solid breakfast, and pack a lunch to bring with you for the day of the event. Snacks and beverages will be provided by NCC to keep you energized and hydrated.
