On February 25, 2012, McKee Botanical Garden is proud to host two events with Richard Louv, New York Times best-selling author of Last Child in the Woods: Saving our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder (2008). Mr. Louv is a recipient of the prestigious Audubon Medal and has been featured on The Today Show ,NBC Nightly News, CBS Evening News andGood Morning America. He will discuss not only his groundbreaking book - widely credited for identifying the effects of nature-deficit disorder and sparking a nationwide ‘back to nature’ movement - but also his latest work, The Nature Principle (2011).
Mr. Louv will discuss nature-deficit disorder and the benefits associated with regular exposure to nature at a morning lecture and light breakfast beginning at 10:30 am. Tickets for this event are $75 each.
“An Evening with Richard Louv” will begin with cocktails at 6:00 pm followed by dinner at 7:00 pm. Mr. Louv will share his passion for reconnecting children with nature and provide the official launch to McKee’s new youth program, Garden Discovery Backpacks. This new program will provide a unique way for children and their families to explore the Garden and learn together through a series of age-appropriate Garden Discovery Backpack topics. Each backpack will contain detailed instructions and educational materials on topics such as insects, pollination and jungle survival skills. Tickets to the evening event are $200 each.
