This is a family-friendly hiking event sponsored by the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council, the non-profit working to connect a 550+-mile hiking and riding trail around the Bay Area along the ridgetops.
Please consider coming out on Saturday, September 11th to the 5th annual Ridge Trail Cruz, a fully supported event for everyone to enjoy. Join with other families to explore the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains, learn more about the Bay Area Ridge Trail, and enjoy a great lunch!
The Family Hike starts at 10am at the Cruz staging area at Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve off Highway 35 south of Highway 84. Family hikers will be shuttled to the Daniels Nature Center. Overlooking Alpine Pond at Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve, this Nature Center features imaginative displays that both children and adults can enjoy. From there, an easy access ½-mile trail around Alpine Pond provides an opportunity to experience pond life up close as you observe signs of wildlife, busy dragonflies, stands of cattails, and peaceful views.
If the young hikers are eager to venture further, we will then hike the ~1.8-mile loop of the Bay Area Ridge Trail from Alpine Pond to Horseshoe Lake, taking in several plant communities – oak woodland, chaparral, and grassland. We end the hike at the lunch area where families can enjoy a full gourmet lunch with tasty foods for all ages. Here you can meet other Cruz hikers, bicyclists, and equestrians before returning to your cars.
$30 registration fee for entire family. Advance registration is required and attendance is limited. For more information, please visit the Ridge Trail website at www.RidgeTrail.org, contact the Council directly at email@example.com, or call 415-561-2595, ask for Dena or Joel.
Please come out, enjoy our nearby open spaces, and support a good cause – creating the 550-mile Bay Area Ridge Trail.
