Event Description

Celebrate winter outdoors as a family by joining Kachemak Bay Environmental Education Alliance members at the Wynn Nature Center in Homer, AK for a day of fun in the snow. First, learn 6 easy outdoor activities to try at home: plant a snow garden, see snowflakes up close, make a winter bracelet, play snow golf and snowball bocci ball, and have a snow seal race. Then you can build a snow cave, learn to snowshoe, make a snow gauge, play snow tag, create snow art, track wildlife and watch winter birds, too! Plus there will be a warming fire and s'mores to enjoy. Dress warmly and bring your friends!

Comment by Carmen Field on January 18, 2010 at 12:40am: We had a bunch of families new to outdoor family events at yesterday's Winter Family Fun Day...the ideal participants! Highlights of the afternoon were the snow caves (some kids were building and deconstructing these for hours), snowshoeing, and the 6 easy outdoor winter activities...and the s'mores of course. Next up for our community EE group: spring egg hunt, mud games at a wallow somewhere in town, and a summer sand sculpting contest at low tide.
