Event Description

Throughout history, cultures around the globe have celebrated the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, as a time to reflect on the past year and look with hope to the coming year.  Families are invited to rejoice in a celebration of that tradition at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center’s annual Winter Solstice Celebration on Friday, December 21. This family friendly celebration features:

  • A  naturalist-led twilight hike on ALNC’s trails;
  • Nature crafts for the kids including a fun and functional pinecone birdfeeder;
  • Inspirational Winter Solstice stories from around the globe;
  • A festive bonfire and ceremonial burning of the Yule log;
  • Wassail made over a fire in the Children's Shack; and
  • Hot cocoa, yummy seasonal snacks and more!

Don’t miss this special night of joyful festivities as we look forward towards longer and lighter days.
