Do you love working with children and being outdoors? If so, this could be the job for you. Pathfinders Nature Mentoring is looking for an Assistant Mentor in our Preschool and After-school Programs.
About the Preschool
The preschool meets twice-weekly September through early June on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The program hosts up to 10 children aged 3 to 5 and is held
exclusively outdoors (rain or shine). Children are dropped off at Werry Park in Palo Alto and travel in the Pathfinders van to explore surrounding natural spaces. Frequent locations include Foothills Park, Arastradero Preserve, Windy Hill Preserve, Redwood Grove, Hidden Villa and the Palo Alto Baylands. The Assistant Mentor is responsible for supporting the Lead Mentor and assisting the children throughout their adventures. This often entails helping children on the van ride to our location, reading or sharing stories during morning circle, participating in games and play, assisting children during snack and lunch time, as well as a variety of other activities dependent on the day's location.
About the After-school
The After-school program hosts 10 children from Palo Alto schools in grades 2-5. The Assistant Mentor will be at Escondido Elementary at 1:30 pm to pick up some of the group, and walk them to Werry Park. At Werry Park, additional children may be dropped off, and the van will arrive with children from Ohlone Elementary at 1:45 pm.
