My Nature Detectives students love creating their field journals for writing, drawing, noting measurements most of all. During the winter we made Rainsticks. Then we hold a "Nature Music" concert with natural objects, rainsticks and my Balafon. They love it!  I have also asked them to draw what is the on the ground, what is as high as their knees, their shoulders and above their head. It sharpens their observation skills.

Hello everyone! I'm new to this group and look forward to reading the discussions to-date and hopefully cultivating a future exchange of ideas with you all. I'm a practicing Landscape Architect (I design camps) and a university lecturer with an interest in children, youth and the environment as well as STE(A)M programming at camp.

Thought I'd share an article from Camping Magazine, related to my (and possibly your) interests - Nature Noticing Excursions

I would like to invite you to a screening of the film Jens Jensen The Living Green tonight at 7pm  The National Building Museum in DC.

Jens Jensen was one of the greatest ever at using art in nature - he created a Dunes pageant that featured 1000 actors in 1914 to save the dunes of Indiana. That event drew an estimated 70,000. Come tonight and find out how he did it. We hold more screenings in the Midwest next week and later in the summer. Events on our site: Here's the teaser:
