Great ning Christina. C&NN are doing fabulous work. As is the newly established Nature Play WA. I have written an Australian book on being outside with kids (and the importance and FUN of such) and will soon start contributing to a national magazine on nature, children and outdoors. @geoffwhite, I'd love to talk to you about Nature Play. Here in Sydney, we are working on a similar site. However, I think it's consider collaboration with groups such as yours and linking up rather than having two sites championing the same thing. Perhaps you could contact me?

Thats great! I love the idea that it is national and easy for people to get the information.

As Geoff said he WA Department of Sport and Recreation is keen to make this go national and will be contacting our colleages in the other sport and rec departments around australia. The idea is that we will provide the central natureplay australia website and states will have their own portal with state specific information - re places to go and things to do.

Well hello from over the Nullabor.

We, the department of sport and rec, are getting the nature play movement going over here. We want to extend it nationally, and so far Vic has shown interest.

We are working closely with C&NN at the moment, which we are investigating creating a geographic directory of members and family nature clubs, so John, we are planning to do this internationally.

We are also looking into a find nature database so you can add places of interest to a google map to find places to go.

Christina, bushwalking sounds great with your kids. We are expecting our first child in September and we are keen to get out there with them. Might have to settle with the backyard initially with a newborn.

Will keep you posted on this forum.

I am in Sydney, NSW. We take our two kids (aged 2 and 4)bush walking at the weekend sometimes and love getting them outside. Its hard to find info on where to go if you dont know. It would be nice to see all the states here have a website similar to WA. Does anyone have any ideas? Its just great to have one website to go to.

We live in the inner city- our local primary schools have community gardens which are a great idea.Things like that are a start. I think we need to address the fear and anxiety a lot of parents have over their kids being outside.

Hi Geoff and all other Aussie's (I hope it is ok to call you Aussies). I hope to visit your country now that I am retired. My brother just returned and has nothing but good things to say. He traveled the entire circumference of Australia. Of course, our own Richard Louv just returned also and he speaks with excitement about what is going on in Western Australia to connect kids and families to nature.

Geoff, your question about where everyone else is based in Australia touches on a subject we just talked about at the annual Children & Nature Network Leadership Gathering: how can we facilitate people getting to know other people who are located in the same geographic area. I would love to be able to somehow organize all C&NN members by location so everyone in Washington or Oregon can be grouped....or everyone in Scotland or Australia can be grouped. Amy and Suz are aware of this discussion and are working on how to make that happen. Thanks for joining the Network, and please post often. John
