Words of Wisdom

Teaching children about the natural world
should be treated as one of the most
important events in their lives.
Thomas Berry, Dream of the Earth

If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense
of wonder, he needs the companionship
of at least one adult who can share it,
rediscovering with him the joy, excitement
and mystery of the world we live in.
Rachel Carson, A Sense of Wonder

I'm so excited for this group! I've worked at an environmental preschool for 19 years and think ECE and Nature is how it should be for all children. The non profit school I work at is on Forest Service land so we have nature all around. My major goal is to transform preschool playgrounds from plastic structures and artificial surfaces, to natural spaces for children to explore. Any thoughts?

Wonderful group that I hope grows as big as the Natural Teachers Network. I have many pre-school and child care professionals that I have been waiting to refer to this group site. There is great interest in weaving nature-based activities into the daily routines of these organizations, but not much knowledge about how to do it. Thanks Avery. jt

Likewise, Avery! I hope this group proves a wonderful and rich compendium of resources. I appreciate the inspirational and useful material you've already posted and suspect you'll have many contributing members.
