Comment by Laura Clifford on June 11, 2011 at 4:00am Thank you, Suz! Happy to be part of this new group.
Here's a cute story (along with a picture) that my son told me: His 2 girls were playing in their backyard and they came up with the idea of making a "salad" with leaves, flower petals and anything else they could find. He attributed their creative idea to all the times I've taken them on outdoor adventures. OK - can't talk anymore about this because I may start crying!! lol So, here's the picture:
Comment by Laura Clifford on June 10, 2011 at 5:05pm Thank you Suz for doing this. The Outdoor Grandparents group needed a boost. I was having trouble with the mechanics of it.Some one wanted to call me (perhaps it was you) to have a telephone discussion, but I could never get my response to go throug.
Tomorrow I am taking my two oldest grand children to Grandma's camp. It is is a day camp in Cedars of Lebanon State park in Tennessee. It is blistering hot here right now and the camp does not involve water play. I hope we all survive!

I think grandparents have a vital role in getting kids outside, in an age when parents are too busy or just disconnected from nature altogether. I invite you to share my outdoor play adventures with my grandson at the Nevada Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights website:
Thanks for starting this group, Laura. I know that I have a huge influence on my 3 granddaughters. They love to explore the outdoors. We are frequent visitors to different arboretums in Southern California. The last trip was 2 weeks ago and the girls took almost 200 pictures. A few of them are below.
Looking forward to connecting with you. Please visit my website to get to know me better: http://www.SeeJaneExplore.com I'll check your website.
I think that's a great idea! Last year, I rented a cabin in Townsend, Tennessee and took our 2 daughters, son-in-law and 2 grandsons hiking in the Smokies for a week. The boys, 23 months and 9 yrs old, loved it. I bought my daughter a backpack child carrier and she and her son love it.
This year we're working on visiting our state parks (we're in Missouri) and introducing the boys to nature close to home. They love it and it's great exercise for all of us. My grandsons love hiking with us.
Comment by Children & Nature Network on June 10, 2011 at 9:44am Thank you Laura Clifford for getting the ball rolling on this group. This is the original comment from Laura, whose Outdoor Grandparents group has been folded into this one:
I am interested in encouraging grandparents to take an active role in introducing our grandkids to the great outdoors. Gaining a sense of excitement about being in a natural environment is crucial to their development as complete human beings.
