Let’s G.O.! (Get Outside) Family Bird Walk in Homer, Alaska

Naturalist and Nature Rocks Homer founder Carmen Field, joined by USFWS Public Programs Supervisor Poppy Benson, led an April 26th Let's G.O.! Family Bird Walk for 12 youngsters, 8 moms and a grandmother. The group strolled on a boardwalk bordering Beluga Slough in downtown Homer, stopping often to hear and watch birds of all shapes and sizes. The morning's highlight was undoubtedly a giant flock of Greater White-fronted Geese flying right over everyone's heads. Birds seen through binoculars and a spotting scope included both Greater White-fronted and Canada Geese, Sandhill Cranes, Green-winged Teals, an Eurasian Wigeon, American Wigeons, Mallards, Northern Pintails, and Bald Eagles. This free event was also a Week of the Young Child event.
