Share, Learn, Listen, Lead

I just wanted to share with everyone, in case it helps you.

We in Central Ohio have been active since 2007 and it seems like the work just keeps increasing. We are at a point now were we need some paid stuff and fundraising to print materials and participate in all the things we are invited to.
So we are focusing this year's fall gathering on the question of how to do that: How to build capacity to do more work. We aren't seeking out the work anymore. It is coming to us, fast and furious.

Here's our agenda for the day. We hope to come out of it with a plan for the coming year, so that we can achieve nonprofit status and form working groups.

The Leave No Child Inside Central Ohio Collaborative:
2009 Leadership Retreat

GOALS:
• Outline what we have been able to do with the resources we have.
• Discuss what we would like to do in the future.
• Decide how to build the capacity to sustain and expand our work!

AGENDA:
10-10:30: Welcome/Introduction/presentation
10:30-noon: Discuss the big question of capacity building within the Leave No Child Inside Collaborative’s staff, Steering Team and operations.
Lunch – Relax with the lunch you brought. Explore the grounds or deepen relationships with others.
1-2:30 p.m.: Return to the morning work with renewed focus. Organize working groups.
2:30 – 3:30 p.m.: Break into two groups to discuss:
• 501c3 status and steps
• Making the spring All-Ohio Summit as effective as possible
3:30-4 p.m. Regroup/farewell

We had a really great day and formed 4 committees that will work during the coming year! We were extremely pleased by the number and the commitment of the people who attended (knowing that we would be asking them to volunteer). It was great!

Our active teams for the year are:
Communications
Governance
501(3)c
Spring all-state Summit
So who is your audience and how many people do you expect?

We employed a very valuable tool at our first summit, a group called Community Mapping which is developed and trained through University of New Hampshire. They provided skilled facilitators and reporters, worked with us to shape the questions for strategic planning, and summarized the outcomes. It was focused and effective. We divided the audience into groups of about 15, each group including representatives from the 5 sectors, and had them work through the same sequence of questions and exercises through the day. The result of that summit shaped the discussion for the second forum, which shaped the third conference (which we held barely a week ago). marilyn
