On September 22nd, over 30 volunteers gathered at the mouth of Swan Canyon in urban San Diego to celebrate C&NN's Serve Outside September (S.O.S.) Initiative and to get our hands dirty while restoring native plant habitat.
Through an innovative partnership with San Diego Cayonlands, Oceans Discovery Institute and The Natural Leaders Network, volunteers dedicated several well-spent hours collecting nopales, eradicating invasive species and watering recently planted native trees and flowers.
Our hands-on participation afforded us a first-hand look at the current problems natural areas face within urbanized development. By the end of the day we had revived, reestablished and replenished nature's beauty and our own sense of connection to natural place. Thank you to all who participated, it was a wonderful success!
