C&NN Connect

Share, Learn, Listen, Lead

In 2006, when Richard Louv spoke to an audience in Southern California, he inspired Pam Johnson to expand Inside the Outdoors school programs to include family programs.  Inside the Outdoors joined the Children and Nature Network and since 2007, our family programs have reached over 500,000 children, parents, teachers, and community members.

In 2008 after attending the Grassroots Gathering, Inside the Outdoors launched our Service-Learning environmental education programs.  Students participating in these programs were connecting to nature and learning how to be stewards of the environment.

The drive, determination, and spirit of the young people involved inspired businesses, communities, and many other youth.

The support of the community (and that community includes the Children and Nature Network)  inspired young people to believe that they could make a difference.

On December 13, Inside the Outdoors received the 2011 Governor's Award for Environmental and Economic Leadership in the category of "Enhanced Environmental and Economic Leadership." This is California's highest environmental honor. We are excited that we received the award a second time for the sustained impact Inside the Outdoors is having in California.  Even more exciting to us is the fact that nature-based environmental education is being recognized as an important component of environmental stewardship.

Thanks to everyone who is a part of Children and Nature Network.  Your support  makes the work we do in Southern California possible!
