Please help us speak to our legislators and transportation officials about the federal bypass project currently planned through the heart of Hurricane Creek in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
In addition to costing taxpayers millions of dollars, the Eastern Bypass will alter our city irrevocably- forcibly relocating over 200 families and creating an enormous, unsightly spaghetti junction at several places where quiet, natural neighborhoods currently exist.
There is nothing nature-friendly, green, or eco-minded about the Eastern Bypass. By building 5 four-lane bridges to cross Hurricane Creek in five different locations through Hurricane Creek Park, the sensitive natural ecosystem, listed as a possible home to at least 8 endangered species, will become a noisy drainage pit for automobile fluids which wash off the bridges during rain.
Your voice can help speak for all the wildlife and local children whose voices are ignored. The Friends of Hurricane Creek have organized a workshop for children who are victims of violence. All of these efforts are now on hold as we fight to keep our creek.
Because what will be destroyed by this bypass can never be recreated by human beings.
We have until April 15th to get this petition to our officials. Please help us.
