Comment by Ali Baylor on October 11, 2012 at 1:26pm I just started doing special needs kids ecotherapy sessions at our farm, Golden Rainbow Ranch (http://www.goldenrainbowranch.org) We just had our first one last Sunday- 2 Down's Syndrome kids, one with Dyspraxia, one with autism, 1 with Aspergers. It went GREAT- we just spent time learning about and petting all the animals, like a bunny, a chick, the therapy poodles, and the alpaca and goats. One of the moms commented that her son was much calmer all that evening and the whole next day.

Comment by Margie on June 12, 2012 at 8:38am Recently did some wildlife education for kids with autism, Asperger's, ADHD, and other related disorders. By showing them how they were connected to wildlife and to nature in general, I hoped to give them a sense of self-esteem and belonging. Then I asked their favorite animals, to affirm their individuality. I made sure to get every child to participate and feel they had something to contribute. Tips for teaching: patience & compassion.

Comment by Marcie Morgan on December 20, 2011 at 1:28pm Hi there,
My passion is working with children in an outdoor setting. It truely is amazing the difference that I see in some of these kids. Shy ones suddenly light up and participate, children troubled by a diagnosis of ADHD find direction and everyone loves being together to learn from their surroundings. I am Vice President of Frosty Pines Wilderness Education Program in Bayfield, Co. I am looking to partner with Therapists, Psycologists, Pediatricians and anyone who works with children and agrees that nature does hold the key to unlocking the potential for children to once again be inspired to learn, connect and embrace our world together.
C&NN Connect was created to support people and organizations working worldwide to reconnect children and nature. Host: Suz Lipman
