Description: Are you looking for a fun way to teach youth how to take care of the natural world? In this free training lead by Leave No Trace's Traveling Trainers you'll learn hands on methods for educating youth in environmental awareness and the Leave No Trace principles. PEAK (Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids) is the result of a unique partnership between REI and the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics to educate children about the outdoors and responsible use of shared public lands. The PEAK program is an excellent, easy-to-use resource for educators and youth participants with limited time. The program is a great tool for troop leaders, teachers, naturalists and outdoor lovers. The PEAK pack can be rented for free at REI to teach your youth group about Leave No Trace. Snacks will be provided at this presentation.

Thanks Suz! One of the reasons my wife and I chose the Pack we did was because of the amount of time they are outdoors. Last year all the members of my Den received the World Conservation Award, and this year we are working on Leave No Trace.

I can recall as a boy spending almost all my free time exploring woods, finding salamanders, crayfish and frogs. I remember hawks, baby owls and red tailed foxes running through my back yard, and it's just sooooo sad that my Scouts cant say the same thing!

Hi Steve! I'm so glad you started this group. With so many members and programs and a great organization, scouts are a natural ally in the Children & Nature movement. I was a Girl Scout leader for 7 years. I hope we hear from a lot of people who are or have been involved in scouting in some way. Some of the fun outdoor activities our troop did included orienteering in a local park, camping overnights with campfires and box-oven cooking, beach and shore clean-ups, hikes, found-object bracelets, leaf prints, camping knots, and animal care.

Some of the kids loved spending time in nature and some had to be coaxed a little more. Even the reluctant ones, once they left their electronics behind and began an activity, began to see nature in a new way, to have a lot of fun with the group and observe nature's subtlety and wonder. I saw some pretty strong transformations.
