A recent gathering of second-graders had a great time at an Art Farm birthday party drawing our mini-mule, Picasso (he's modeling for them off-camera, to the left, which is why all heads are turned that way). The low railing separating students from their model is a safety zone. Students know not to cross the barrier to pet the animal unless invited by their teacher. Art Farm students work in outdoor studios, such as this one, on our 10-acres private habitat near the Village of Carlsbad, in north coastal San Diego County.  This party was quite large (20 students) so we placed them in two groups so each could get a great drawing lesson while the second group toured Art Farm. Later, students enjoyed holding chickens, walking goats, swinging on our tire swing, and, of course, a mule-themed birthday cake.
