Love your "Stalking Education in the Wild" - sounds perfect! Just got back from leading 14 women down the Colorado River, stalking writing and art in the wild. We had a fabulous time.

Hi Ariella. No apology needed. We are all getting used to this new way of communicating and sharing. At 67, my challenges are considerable. The biggest challenge is picking which section of C&NN Connect to post something. Here is my thought process, for what it is worth. For subjects and content of interest to all members of C&NN Connect (including all Groups), I would post a blog. To me, a blog is sharing thoughts, ideas, suggestions, challenges, and points of view that a person has about a content area, without necessarily needing a response from others, but welcoming it if someone wants to. A discussion is that same content area but the person who posts it wants to generate a discussion.

If the content area is related to one of the 30 or so Groups that have been established, you can post your thoughts either on the Comment Wall of that Group or in the discussion area which is just above the Comment Wall. The Discussion area in the Group sites will keep the integrity of the subject within one thread line, while the Comment Wall is a pot pourri of subjects not necessarily related.

If you just want to alert folks to an event, that should go just on the Event site, with the appropriate details. By posting on the Event site, it will also go on the Main page as well. This is true also for blogs, discussions, and Group postings. Hope all this is helpful. Keep sharing. John

Hi Ariella. First, don't worry. It's fine to send individual messages to people. It just happens to be a feature of the forum that all the activity shows up on the front page. I feel the same way when I see a bunch of messages from me to others all in a row. It's no big deal. There's not one "right" way to let others know about an event.

I would suggest that you post in the Events section, which you did, because people look there and I find events to publicize by looking there. You could also broadcast a message to the entire NING network by doing so as your status -- this is the 140-character little window that is at the top of your own page with an "update" button. Anything you post there will live on the Main page of the forum for a while. If you're in a group, such as Natural Teachers Network, you can post a message to the whole group that lives on the group's Comment Wall. (And those who have requested e-mail notification of their comments will receive that.)

Having just learned that there are so many members in Colorado, a CO group makes a great deal of sense to help you all network and let each other know about events and resources. Once the CO group is up, you can post things to the Comment Wall of that group, or start discussions. You can even e-mail a whole group, but I don't think that's done as much as commenting, and it's done sparingly.

So you see that I do recommend posting in multiple community places. In doing so, you don't really need the individual e-mails unless you really want to reach out to certain people. I think it's great that you posted on the Facebook page, too. If you need help setting up a CO group, let me know. Thanks for your work and your openness to suggestions, and for being such a valuable part of the community.

Hi Ariella and John. These are great suggestions, especially about starting a Colorado group! I highly encourage you to do so. I also appreciate your work at Sanborn Camps, and am glad that you posted your Family Fun Day in our Event section, where more people will see it. Hi Ariella and welcome to C&NN Connect and the Natural Teachers Network. I appreciate your enthusiasm to announce your activities in Colorado, and especially your passion for connecting children with nature. Might I suggest that in the future you make one announcement for everyone instead of individual announcements for members in Colorado because of the way the Ning site operates. Another suggestion is that, since there are so many participants from Colorado, a separate Colorado Group site be created so you can reach those folks who are specifically interested in your announcements regarding gatherings in Colorado. Thank you for your energy and commitment to children and the wonderful work you are doing at Sanborn Camps. John
