I am a resident of Essex Junction, VT, a member of the Summit Street School community and Co-Chair of our playground committee. Inspired by the No Child Left Inside Movement and by the mounting research attesting to the benefits of play in the natural world, we are undertaking a project to design and build a natural playground at our school. We have been fundraising for the past year and are about to begin the design process. We should have a final design plan by summer 2010.

I've been busy too but it would be nice to connect. Try emailing me at "firstname.lastname@example.org" and we can set up a time to talk with each other. (The website isn't up yet but the email address should work. It's great that you are working on a natural play space for children. We live so near each other, I'm sure we can find a way to collaborate! I'll look for an email from you. Camilla
Hi Chris, is Summit Street School a public or private school, and for what ages? (btw, my son lives in Burlington and I hope to visit him within a couple of weeks.... might like to take a look at what the playground looks like now.... ) I live in CT.
Hi Chris! Welcome to C&NN. You've obviously come to the right place. :) Your project sounds terrific, as does the way it's connected to the children and nature movement. Have you joined the group, Children's Built Environments? (Under the "groups" tab.) You'll find people engaging in similar projects and lots of great discussions. Keep us posted on the playground!
Thanks for your interest in HOLDING OUR OWN and also now in MOTHER NATURE'S CHILD. I love hearing what schools are doing and would be delighted to talk with you about possible ways to use the film to support getting children in your community outside! We have just returned from filming a fascinating interview with Richard Louv. I don't expect the film will be finished until the fall. At that time, a fund-raising event would be terrific but a small presentation is possible before then. Let's talk! Camilla
