Transformational Experience: From Fear to Wonder

Last spring, we hosted a family camping trip to Mojave National Preserve with our family nature club, Family Adventures in Nature. Three families came, which we thought was a pretty

good turnout since the trip required a five-hour drive from San Diego. One

family we’d never met before brought two daughters, 7 and nearly 4. The

seven-year-old’s name was Kate. The kids seemed to hit it off right away. We

all did,…

Great American Backyard Campout, June 26, 2010

Hello All.

I just looked up the National Wildlife Federation's "Great American Backyard Campout" and it is scheduled for Saturday, June 26, 2010. I thought it might be a good idea to start a blog topic here to throw around ideas, tips, etc. for participating in this event. We've got a good 120 families in our group now (not all are active as of now) and this will likely be our "big" summer event!

I will be rallying a group within our group to participate in the planning and development… Continue

Hello Janice,

How has the issue of liability been tackled as it pertains to family nature clubs and leading outdoor excursions?

Thanks for the welcome Janice.  I am in the process of creating a Family Nature club for the South Mississippi region.  Any pointers?  How do I get it listed on this site?

Hi Janice.

Thank you for you comment. Actually I don't have a family club yet, but I'm in the process of starting one in my neighborhood. I'm a geologist and I teach science and environmental ed. and I love nature so I can't wait to share my thoughts and learn some great tips from Family Nature Clubs :)

Have you ever come to Portugal? We have a great weather for nature activities!

Yeah and Welcome! You are exactly who we need here. Love the photos.

eNature! Well, we developed that site ourselves -- my husband and I and a team of very talented folks from 1998 - 2004. Long story. Good times. My husband is still involved to some extent.

Hi Janice! Welcome to C&NN! That looks like such a great, accessible adventure hike for younger children. They look like they're exploring and really having a blast! That's great that you and your group are leading such a fun activity. I hope you'll keep posting about your activities and continue to meet people around the network. Also, feel free to post upcoming hikes in the Events category on this NING network, and on the Movement Map that's on the C&NN web site. (Ask me if you need any help doing that.) See you around!
