Me and my fellow interns at Cavallo Point in Sausalito! Guess which one I am?
I am an intern in I-YEL (Inspiring Young Emerging Leaders), a program made up of a group of high school interns that devote 30 hours a month to restoring urban trails, researching environmental justice issues, and working on civil service projects. This program entered its 10th year this year, which is also my first year!
I had the opportunity to partake in many educational and outdoor experiences through this program, such as like planting grass at the Presidio Plant Nursery, volunteering at the Crissy Field's annual Earth Stroll, attending seminars at Cavillo Point across the Golden Gate Bridge in Sausalito to hear Jon Jarvis, the director of the National Park Service speak , and several other experiences that have exposed me to the huge network and community of people who share my passion for the outdoors.
Earlier this year in mid March my friends and I at the Crissy Field Center in San Francisco, CA, put on a youth leadership conference for Bay Area youth. 120 high schoolers participated in this youth summit, with attendees coming from Santa Rosa, Marin, Redwood City, and of course, San Francisco!
My fellow interns and I had planned for this conference since November. We spent many months planning and preparing the workshops we were going to lead, the games and team builders…
