Bio: Kari is not a professional tree hugger though she is a proud wildcrafter. She is an urban mother, librarian and classically trained chef championing the benefits exposure to nature gives children.

Kari is a love refuge from Norway. She moved to Canada to join her filmmaker husband and raise their children in Toronto. Being that Kari is Norwegian, her husband is from Florida and they live in Canada she likes to call three places her home. Norway, Florida and Canada. Her education and different cultural background gives her a unique perspective on culture, nature lifestyle and parenting.

She speaks Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, and English, speaks and understand some German and understands enough French to never go hungry in Paris.

She is so passionate about getting kids outside, Kari made it is her business. When looking for inspirational ideas about the natural world in magazines and online she found very little. Her passion turned into a business idea. She has set out to make an exciting website connecting children with nature for adults and kids.

I do hope you can make to Anchorage to visit your family someday...if you do, I'm just 250 miles down the highway (not exactly close by, but a gorgeous road trip through the mountains). You might tell your family in Anchorage that Martin LeBlanc is speaking to the general public there about the health benefits of kids playing outdoors this week - Thursday, Nov. 12 at 7pm at the Spenard Recreation Center. It'll be a great presentation and they're going to make trail mix and have awesome door prizes from REI. He'll be in Alaska all week and doing presentations here in Homer and also in Fairbanks. Here in Homer our community coalition is called Connecting Children with Nature in Homer (pretty original, eh?). Our town has had a movement since 2007, but this group's been active just one year. To date we've had a Homer Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights and annual Kids Outdoor Day declared by Mayoral proclamation; have done a bunch of outreach to Rotary, health care professionals, schools, and public via annual Health Fair, OpEd pieces, and radio call-in show; collaborated with EE providers on Kids in Nature workshops for parents/caregivers, and now have a Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/richard.louv#/group.php?gid=143156071365&ref=mf. We're super excited about having Martin LeBlanc come to Homer in 2 weeks to speak to our high school students on the Natural Leaders Network, and physicians, hospital staff, and general public on the health-related benefits of nature play. Right now I'm organizing a family ice fishing event for February, which should be tons of fun in the Great White North :o)
