- I'm author and illustrator of a series of children's fly fishing books starring Olive, the woolly bugger. While the books are certainly related to fly fishing, there's much more to the stories than just fishing: important life lessons about accepting others and perseverance. The books promote conservation minded fishing in hopes of getting youngsters interested in going fishing, which gets them outdoors and enjoying/learning about nature. Fishing is the #1 Gateway Activity according to the Outdoor Foundation, leading kids to other outdoor pursuits. I hope my books can fuel an interest in all things outdoor-related, whether the child hails from a fishing family or not.
