Bishop Grandin Greenway is more than a system of pathways - it is a network of nature areas that includes 3 retention ponds and public pathways that link and support human and wildlife communities. In 2000 a small group of community citizens interested in in enhancing and conserving the area along Bishop Grandin Boulevard between the Red and Seine River, formed the volunteer charitable organization Bishop Grandin Greenway Inc(BGG) .
Today a three metre wide asphalt trail traverses the entire 4.5 kilometre length of the Greenway, providing an enhanced linear green space that supports active and passive recreation and promotes healthy living. BGG is guided by its core values of community, biodiversity, wellness and stewardship. and have strategically planned to enhance/develop the area based on four thematic venues: history, nature, active living and education. As our motto is “By the Community, For the Community” we encourage our fellow south end Winnipeggers, local agencies and business to volunteers to get involved in activities or projects that enhance this free space within their St.Vital community .
Hi Michelle, Warm welcome to C&NN Connect. I'm glad you found us and hope you make yourself at home in discussions and groups. Our Natural Teachers Network will probably interest you, among others. The Greenway sounds wonderful. I hope you'll continue to share your activities and ideas with us and find this a rich source of resources. Hope to see you here again soon.
