"We have a magazine in the US called "MAKE" and they have a Make for Kids section in it. This month they go outside and make stick lashings - focusing on the tripod structure. Perhaps this is yet another way to get kids outside - give them…"
"We meet all kinds of folks on our nature walks - one notable trip we met a set of grandparents who were minding their grandson while his parents were away. The Grandfather knew all about the local plants and weeds. He told us about stinging nettles…"
"We were out sledding the last few days here - I live close to Washington's Crossing, PA and it is nice to see the snow all around the old buildings from the 1700's. My daughter did not want to come in from the snow - she was positively…"
Thanks for your contributions - it's comments from the heart and mind that soften scientific facts and research so I do appreciate your comments. I posted the same discussion on an outdoor education research forum and I have to say the…"
"I just noticed you are from the UK! Cool. I used to get to travel over to towns like Worthing, Reigate, Tonbridge, London, Harlow, and Glasgow. I love it. My work bud has a house with bats in the thatch roof - not sure I like nature that much!
"That's why I fell in after she did - she was afraid of getting in trouble - this way we both got in "trouble" with mom.
One of the parks near me busses in City kids who don't get too much nature. Or the school busses them to the…"
"I noticed that my daughter was afraid a bit, and also, "fashion conscious" if you will. I took her to the huntin store and got her the same ugly green boots as me. We matched. Then we each carried a recycled Oxyclean bucket - we matched…"
"How about limiting TV or video game activities? I take my daughter to the park, on walks, on bike rides, to the golf course, fishing, in the woods etc. I also let her decorate cookies I bake with her. Anything to keep the TV off. If my wife and I…"
"My daughter got me started in having a nature club with her. We still only have three members. BUT!...we have a lot of fun.
We named it, made a goal statement, membership cards, and simple "rules" ...she is 6 so our rules are to be nice…"
"We walk in the parks a lot - we live near Trenton, NJ close to the Delaware River. There is a canal on both sides of the river full of great stuff. It is snowing now and we put out suet and seets for the birds. Our feeders were full up this morning…"

You certainly do know the UK having been to all those towns. Bats live in a lot of our old houses and are protected by law. One of my old schools had bats which was lovely - they don't interfere with humans very much and seem to co-exist quite happily.
Anyway I look forward to hearing many more fishing adventure from yourself and your daughter - who sounds like she's brilliant company.
