"We have a magazine in the US called "MAKE" and they have a Make for Kids section in it. This month they go outside and make stick lashings - focusing on the tripod structure. Perhaps this is yet another way to get kids outside - give them…"

"I just noticed you are from the UK! Cool. I used to get to travel over to towns like Worthing, Reigate, Tonbridge, London, Harlow, and Glasgow. I love it. My work bud has a house with bats in the thatch roof - not sure I like nature that much! I…"

Hi Sal

Thanks for your contributions - it's comments from the heart and mind that soften scientific facts and research so I do appreciate your comments. I posted the same discussion on an outdoor education research forum and I have to say the responses tend to be much drier and not necessarily all factually based!

You certainly do know the UK having been to all those towns. Bats live in a lot of our old houses and are protected by law. One of my old schools had bats which was lovely - they don't interfere with humans very much and seem to co-exist quite happily.

Anyway I look forward to hearing many more fishing adventure from yourself and your daughter - who sounds like she's brilliant company.

Best wishes
Juliet
