Is the Truckee enough nature for now?
I read something this week that rang true in a way that made me think, and worry. It was the most recent "nature tip" from Dr. Scott Sampson, of Dinosaur Train fame (in addition to being a paleontologist, he writes about connecting children and nature). Here is what he said.

Your choice: outdoors or eyeglasses
"Urban eyes" is an article in Science News, Feb. 9, 2013, p. 22-25. It shows
that nearsightedness and myopia have risen significantly (from 25 to 42% of the
US population in one generation). It suggests that the reason is too much
up close reading. The solution--get kids outdoors because myopia points to
cataracts, glaucoma, or a detached retina later in life.
