Secret Treasures And Raven Talk In the Woods With The Kids

Just spent a magical day in the woods with kids (ages 4-6 for this week's camp)  in our Vashon Wilderness Program summer camp. In our "Sit Spot" time, we gave the kids 4 minutes to touch into their hearts, and find a place where a secret treasure meant only for them was waiting. So sweet to see them wander off into the field, find a special place, and discover something special just for them. Some of the kids drew what they found. Others merely placed it into their "mind's eye".

Meanwhile, in this park, the ravens are astoundingly vocal. Another hushed moment we shared was on the trail. We all lay down on the ground and listened to something high in the trees saying (I kid you not) "Gloop ... Gloop." From last week's camp, I know (or think I know :-)  ) that's a vocalization from friend Raven.

Looking forward to more adventures, mysteries, and discoveries as the week continues!

Oh, cool, Amy. Yes, I live on Vashon, and love it!

Do you live on/near there?   I lived in Seattle for a year when I was in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps.  I loved that corner of the US.

Yes, Amy! Vashon, WA is the place :-). It was a great camp, indeed -- and I'm super-excited for our next summer camp offerings (I'll be teaching at three of them). Hm! Maybe I'll go ahead and do a blog post about them .. :-)

Is that on Vashon Island, WA?     I was there in 1981!     Or at least one of the islands around there.   Sounds like a great camp, Jane!
