We are ever so lucky that our preschool is bordered by beautiful natural bushland. We value the bush as a part of our learning environment, and take small groups of children out into it on (almost) a daily basis.

When I found a poem "This is my Rock" by David McCord, it instantly spoke to me of the feeling of ownership we are seeing in our kids after months, and in some cases a couple of years of exploring our bush trail.

This is My Rock

by David McCord

This is my rock
And here I run
To steal the secret of the sun;

This is my rock
And here I come
Before the night has swept away the sky;

This is my rock,
This is the place
I meet the evening face to face.

I love this poem!  You can just see the kids connecting with the earth as they climb about and lay upon the boulders.

This is really beautiful, Jennifer. You capture such a keen sense of place by matching these joyful pictures to the lovely poem. Your preschool and its program sound so terrific -- I love reading about them.
