"Urban eyes" is an article in Science News, Feb. 9, 2013, p. 22-25.  It shows
that nearsightedness and myopia have risen significantly (from 25 to 42% of the
US population in one generation).  It suggests that the reason is too much
up close reading.  The solution--get kids outdoors because myopia points to
cataracts, glaucoma, or a detached retina later in life.

Hi Eleanora, Warm welcome to the forum. Thanks so much for jumping in with a post. I hope you stay involved.  C&NN is very concerned about this issue, and myopia as one of the many health crises that result from lack of time outdoors. We have also run stories about it on our C&NN news site. This is the latest, picking up on the one from Science News :

Thanks and hope to see you again soon.
