"Urban eyes" is an article in Science News, Feb. 9, 2013, p. 22-25. It shows
that nearsightedness and myopia have risen significantly (from 25 to 42% of the
US population in one generation). It suggests that the reason is too much
up close reading. The solution--get kids outdoors because myopia points to
cataracts, glaucoma, or a detached retina later in life.

C&NN is very concerned about this issue, and myopia as one of the many health crises that result from lack of time outdoors. We have also run stories about it on our C&NN news site.
