I am new to the network - I was scrolling through for other Tennesseans and you were the only one I could find. Are you still active and in the area? I am Education Director at Great Smoky Mountains Institute at…"
John grew up catching snakes and turtles in the creeks of upstate South Carolina, and he has never lost his love of wild things and wild places. He holds a BA degree in English Literature from the University of Notre Dame and an MS in Natural Resources/Environmental Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He has always enjoyed international travel and served two stints in the Peace Corps in Morocco and Russia. In over 20 years experience in environmental education, he has worked in places as far-flung as New England, Yosemite NP, far eastern Russia, and Georgia; but there is no place he’d rather be than the southern Appalachians. He and his wife Michele live in a 100 year old house in Maryville, TN and enjoy spending time on the trails with their two boys, Thomas and Mario. He enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking, turning over logs, and playing/singing folk tunes.
Hi John! Hearty welcome to C&NN! Looks like your organization has been touting the children-and-nature connection for quite some time. You've got a terrific natural place to share with and inspire others. I very much look forward to your contributions on the forum -- I hope you'll keep us posted on your activities and events, and that you make use of the resources here. Cheers!
