Profile Information

Title or Role
Hutton Program/CE Coordinator
American Fisheries Society
Ms. Winkler currently holds the position of Hutton Program/Continuing Education Coordinator at the American Fisheries Society (AFS.) Her background as a primary school teacher has contributed to her success in administering AFS education programs. As Hutton Program Coordinator, Ms. Winkler directs recruitment and promotional campaigns, conducts the Annual Hutton Alumni Survey to track student achievement and program success, processes student and mentor applications, participates in fund-raising efforts, compiles survey data and program statistics into an annual report, and provides information and support for program mentors, host organizations, parents, teachers, and students. The Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program is a summer mentoring program for high school students, sponsored by the American Fisheries Society. The principal goal of the Hutton Program is to stimulate interest in careers in fisheries science and management among groups underrepresented in the fisheries professions, including minorities and women. Application to the program is open to all 11th and 12th grade high school students regardless of race, creed or gender. Because the program seeks to increase diversity within the fisheries professions, qualified women and minority applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. A $3,000 scholarship award is provided to students accepted into the Hutton Program.

Yes. I do have young people (teens) that I work with that may be interested in participatingin the Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program. I am working with the folks from North Face and tghe Sierra Club who may be interested in supporting the program. I would like to know more about the program and what steps we can take to recruit teens to you.

I can be reached by phone at 518.330.9013 or by e-mail at: wasi@nycap.rr.com

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Kathryn. Welcome to C&NN. The Hutton Jr. Fisheries Program sounds fantastic. I hope lots of students will take advantage of it and apply. Please keep us apprised of your efforts. I think you'll find a welcoming community of peers and resources here, as well. You might want to look into our Natural Leaders Network group, among others. See you around!
