Hi Carmen! 10 families drove 80 miles in a blizzard? This Californian feels extremely wimpy reading that. I'm so glad the event went well and that there was some rainbow to be had. It sounds extremely fun, a great day out on the ice. Thanks so much for reporting back - I thought about you out there on Saturday.

At least 10 local families braved Saturday's blizzard in Homer to drive 80 miles up the highway for a sunny afternoon of ice fishing on Sport Lake in Soldotna! Trustworthy Hardware Store owner Scott Miller said this year's derby kick-off had the best attendance yet (in 13 years of hosting this event). We hope everyone had fun fishing, even those who missed catching a little rainbow :o) If anyone wants to try fishing a closer lake (1 hour from Homer) with bigger fish in the next month, contact Carmen Field at 226-4659.
