Event Description

August 20-25, 2012
Mansfield Outdoor Centre, Mansfield, ON.

The Art of Mentoring is a week-long experience, immersing participants in a living, learning culture of nature and self-awareness. This workshop provides knowledge, tools and practices that enrich relationships and allow participants to create a powerful culture of nature connection in all aspects of their life and community.

“Deep in all of our roots, there are stories of our ancestors living in healthy, regenerative communities—villages where people of all ages were in deep relationship with the land, each other, and themselves. The Art of Mentoring is a week-long, experiential, nature based program designed to help us remember these old ways and learn to apply them to our modern communities.

Course Content

The course curriculum draws on approaches from modern education, ancient cultures, ecological wisdom, and principles observed in nature. It provides experiences and a framework that can be used in any facet of one’s life, work, or home environment.

Guided by an international team of experienced facilitators, each day includes personal and group activities, focusing on outdoor experiential opportunities including:

  • the art of questioning
  • wildlife tracking
  • naturalist education
  • sensory awareness training
  • inspirational storytelling
  • singing
  • creative arts
  • exposure to wilderness living skills
  • cultural mentoring
  • community building and personal reflection
  • discussion and reflection

Within the larger structure of the Art of Mentoring, each program has it’s own daily curriculum, and agenda. All programs (aside from the Teens) meet for meals, and all evenings have family oriented programming suitable for all ages. Evenings that don’t have staff taking care of the kids. It’s a very full week of learning and connecting. All meals are provided, and accommodations are mainly tenting, with an option to stay in an indoor room (at extra cost – $75).

Oaks and Acorns ($235): Our parent and tot program, for parents with young ones ages 0-3 (rather dependent 4′s are welcome here as well).

Youth Camp ($295): This is a full day camp of programs for ages 4-8 and 9-12. Our younger group requires 4 year olds that are independent enough to work with a group away from mom and dad for the day, out on the land.

Teen Program ($395): Teens disappear for 4-5 nights out on the landscape, learning new skills, testing them, and connecting with each other and the landscape.

Adult Program ($695): Come and spend a week focused on connecting with the natural world, learn more about the arts of skillful mentoring of youth or peers, and immerse in a community of different ages and stages, all building strong relationships to self, each other, and nature. If you’re interested in the curriculum, check out the Coyote’s Guide to Connecting with Nature. At the Art of Mentoring, we live the principles described in this amazing resource.

Adult Nature Immersion Program ($695): Once you’ve experienced the Art of Mentoring Adult Program, you can come back and disappear onto the landscape, immersed in what we call: The Core Routines of nature connection.

Owls ($75): The Owls are our over 45′s. They dive deeply into what it means to be a valuable elder in their community, and what roles and responsibilities are held by the older generations in healthy communities, connected to nature. It’s powerful. Come and experience a one day trial program on Thursday August 23rd!
