Weekly Field Program: Fridays 9:00-2:00
Fees are the same as the Homeschool program
Teens in Independent Study programs or Home Schooled are welcome to join us weekly as we explore our deeper connections to sustainable living, wilderness awareness, survival skills & permaculture. Teens will be mentored in these skills by Meg Hiesinger & Evan Brown, Earthroots Instructors. The teens will in turn have an opportunity to mentor younger children as part of our “Gathering the Village” Volunteer program on Monday (every week at O’Neill) or Tuesdays (changing locations each week) 9:00-2:00.
This Friday class meets at various locations including O’Neill Regional Park, Silverado Canyon, Tidepoolings in Laguna, South Coast Farms, Newport Back Bay, Trabuco Canyon, Casper’s Wilderness Hot Springs, and more.
The mentoring work with younger children is optional. It is an incredible opportunity to get experience working with kids while being mentored… and it is not for everyone. We are looking for a self selected group of teens who are responsible, are seen as role models with children and who want to spend one more day a week volunteering to facilitate nature connection for others. Teens will receive mentoring during Friday’s class on how to be an effective mentor. Coyote’s Guide to Connecting with Nature is a great resource for getting to know Earthroots mentoring philosophies. We can begin as early as September 16, or when there are 5 students enrolled & ready to go. As of now, there are 4 on the interest list. Pricing is the same as our one day per week Homeschool program, but you will get two days per week of experience in rotation with other Teens.
