How can I keep my children interested in outside activities when we are surrounded by computers, tv, ipods, iphones allday?
The "straw that broke the camel's back" came today. My 10 year-old niece brought an ipod to our elderly aunt's birthday party. All the kids, mine included, swarmed around it. I didn't feel it was my place to tell her to put it away.
This situation made me realize how connected with a screen kids have become. I'm finding it harder for me to get my boys to come up with outdoor activities on their own. We don't have neighborhood kids for them to play with, but even when they do go to a friends house, a screen gets used at some point.
I have a hard time finding like-minded parents who emphasize outdoor play and limit screen time. I don't see the situation getting any better. I just get so frustrated.
