After just reading in C&NN news that U.S. summer camp attendance is up, I thought a round-up of some different camp experiences would be a helpful resource for those of you mulling over summer vacation plans. I'll get things started with info on the Appalachian Mountain Club's 12 family camps in New Hampshire and Maine.
Lodge-to-hut hiking camps are among the most popular, and other outdoor adventures include remote canoeing and fly fishing on the AMC’s 66,500-acre Maine Woods conservation land, exploring the summit of Mt. Washington, and rafting on the Androscoggin River. All camps are a good fit for families with kids who are ages 5-12, and guided activities at every camp include easy-to-moderate hikes and hands-on naturalist programs like pond studies, forest ecology, and wildlife watching.
