It has been some time since I last wrote in.  As I was reading all the interesting discussions I can see that many are trying to get the children connected to nature.  We have been having a great time too.  The Autumn was full of surprises.  Our resident bunnies had babies we counted 8 to our surprise.  Just when all eight found a home she had more.  This was a topic on care for the bunnies.  With the weather getting colder the children caught all 5 babies and the mom and took care of them inside.  Dad had to stay outside.  Someone left wild ducks at our door step, so we have taken them in too.  The children are doing very well in the care, cleaning, feeding, and playing with our new friends.  Our play yard is a natural habitat.  This year we were able to find many cocoons, noted the shapes and textures and where we found them.  A guessing game of who is inside.   We had lots of milk weed and dill so we took pictures of the caterpillars daily.  They grow very fast.  We watched as they made their homes and counted the days until they emerged.  It is amazing what the children find that can become a wonderful teaching moment.  Keep up the wonder!  Nancy

Hi Nancy! Thank you for this wonderful snapshot of the play yard and its animals, activities and growth. It all sounds like tremendous fun.

What have others been doing outside in nature?
