At around 2 p.m. on the day this photo was taken, I started thinking of excuses to skip the Green Hour. Thankfully, none of them were good enough and I rallied myself to take the kids skating. We had such a blast!
After about 5 minutes, Eleanor beamed and said, "Thank-you for taking me here!"
I really needed to see her smile and have fun. It was a tough weekend and I've been worried about her. Watching her fall repeatedly on the hard ice, then get back up every time, determined to learn and having fun regardless filled me with love and admiration.
After 40 minutes, she reluctantly agreed to leave to save her frozen toes. She made me promise to bring her back soon. This experience makes me feel like I found a key to unlock something great inside of her.
As parents, we never quite know what will work. We just have to stay open and keep trying to find the right keys.
