I have two sons. The older is in college and we enjoy cycling and backpacking. The younger is a teenager with autism. My wife and I involve him in a range of fitness and social activities, including Boy Scouts. He enjoys camping and hiking (see the link below) and never complains about being "unplugged" during our outings.

My son with autism has limited speech, and usually has to be prompted. That's why my wife and I were tickled over his reaction to a challenging 10-mile hike in the Shenandoah.

Step by Step with Autism

I signed up my Boy Scout son for the hiking merit badge. It’s one of the merit badges required for Eagle rank. Because of my son’s autism, I don’t know if he’ll ever be able to complete all the Eagle requirements, but this checks off one that I was confident he could complete.
