Get your kids more involved in nature

Hi, everyone. I am new to C&NNCONNECT. I am a landscape photographer based in the UK, but have been involved in many aspects of the environment in my life. Earlier this year I created Hug The Planet - websites for kids to upload images of their involvement in nature. As I am funding the entire, global project out of my shallow pockets I have so far only been able to create a HugThePlanet page on facebook and have also worked a deal with Flickr, without its own dedicated website. This is a not-for-profit endeavour. There has been an encouraging response from the UK, Portugal, Costa Rica and the USA but I need to take it to the next level. I have mini-launched the concept in the area where I live to about 60 schools and maybe 15 publications and website. Every month I give away free Hug The Planet badges to the best images and in September I will be hosting an evening's discussion on ecopsychology, forest schools, gardening and, of course HugThePlanet. Next year I intend to publish a book with the 100 top images with text by ecopsychologists, forest school practitioners and other appropriate contributors. I would be truly grateful if you would all take a look at the sites and if possible encourage your kids to submit some images, with their comment on how that image makes them feel. If anyone would like to take the idea on, in their local area - all the better, please contact me. And please give me your feedback.

Thank you.

Thanks Suz. I have a couple of friends who have joined you already through letting you use my database of contacts (1236). These things always take time. I have just announced on the HugThePlanet facebook page that I am looking to franchise this idea by town if necessary. And yes, I will list the discussion in your events callendar and keep you posted of progress and events.

Hi Mel! Welcome to C&NN Connect. This does sound like a very interesting project. I hope you get some submissions and feedback from folks here. In addition to keeping us posted on your project, you may want to list your September discussion in our Event Calendar, as well as explore our groups that have to do with art and photography. (We have an International Group as well.) Hope to see you here again soon.

Sounds like an interesting project. I will see if I can get my students to send you some photos.
